How To Get Rid Of Dark Skin From Elbows, Knees, Armpits, And Neck!

Many of us have dark skin areas on the elbows, knees, armpits, and neck. This common skin problem is not really a health issue, it is just an issue for the appearance.

The cause of such dark skin is a pigmentation known as acanthosis nigricans which appears with the age and with suntanning. The knee and elbow skin has more fold of skin layers and it is a lot thicker.

On these areas, we have no oil glands, and therefore the skin is naturally very dry, which means that the skin is drier than the other body parts.

The armpits skin isn’t dry like one the knees and elbows, but here dark skin appears because of shaving and using lotions and other cosmetics. Dark skin on the armpits is a lot scarier and stressful for women, especially in summer for wearing tops and t-shirts.

There are several natural remedies that you can try to fix this.


Aloe Vera – it lightens the skin by nourishing it. Also, it eliminates spots. This particular plant can make skin much healthier and rejuvenated. It is a very healthy remedy and it also possesses anti-cancer properties. Aloe Vera is an ingredient used in many cosmetic products. What you should do is the following: simply take an aloe vera gel, apply some on the neck and leave it for 20 minutes. After that rinse it. Repeat this every day.

Baking soda – it removes dead skin and eliminates spots. Mix baking soda with water (3 parts baking soda and 1 part fresh water) and then put on your neck and leave it for 5 minutes. Wash with cold water. You should do this two times a week.

Potatoes – potatoes contain Catecholase, a compound that lightens the skin. You should grind potatoes and put the juice on your neck, leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it. Another way would be to mix potato juice with lemon juice, put it on the dark skin area and after 15 minutes wash it off. Do this every day and you’ll see great results.


Lemon – Lemons have lots of vitamin C and they peel off the dead skin. In addition, it refreshes the skin and removes all those dead skin cells while toning complexion. You should rub some lemon juice on the knees and elbows, leave it for 20 minutes, then rinse it with warm water and put some lotion. For an even better result, add some honey to the mixture.

Sugar – it removes dead skin cells and the granules tone the skin complexion. You should make a paste by mixing sugar and some olive oil, put it on the elbows and knees, and rinse it with cold water after 5 minutes. Repeat this every week.

Almonds – they are really healthy and they tone the skin. Warm up some almond oil and put it on before you go to sleep. You’ll see the results after a couple of days. Additionally, you can blend two tbsp almond powder and some yogurt to make a paste. Put it on the dark skin areas and rinse it when it dries. Do this every day for 2 weeks.


Milk – if you blend it along with curd, the lactose acid will brighten your skin. You will need 1 tbsp milk, one tbsp curd, and 2 tbsp flour. Blend everything until the mixture becomes smooth like a paste. Apply it on the armpits, leave it for 15 minutes, and then rinse.

Cucumber – it lightens the skin and if you combine it with fresh lemon juice it will do miracles for your skin. The lemon whitens the skin while the cucumber cools it. For this Ayurveda remedy, you will need to mix cucumber juice and lemon juice and then add some turmeric. The lemon will start whitening your skin while the cucumber will cool it off. The use of turmeric will prevent stains. After that, you can put a few cucumber circles on the skin for a refreshing effect.

Chickpea mask – it brightens the armpits. You should simply take 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp yogurt, 2 tbsp of chickpea and 1 pinch of turmeric. Blend all these ingredients, apply the mix on the skin and let it sit for one hour. Rinse with cold water. This particular mask clears and saturates the skin. Within the first 2 weeks do this twice a week.
